Nance Wilson, Ph.D., Program Director and Co-Investigator, Youth Empowerment Strategies (YES!)

 

Nance Wilson is a social epidemiologist whose primary interest is in working with children and youth on social justice, to help them gain their voice in society. She received her MPH in biostatistics and epidemiology and her Ph.D. in epidemiology, both at the University of California at Berkeley. Her research has included looking at the relationship between elementary school and middle school students' use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs, as well as the relationship between students' perception of neighborhood social disorder, sense of hope and ATOD use. Dr. Wilson has coordinated several large-scale research projects, including a National Institute on Drug Abuse-funded study at the Developmental Studies Center, a Drug Abuse Prevention Program Follow-up Study. She is currently a co-investigator, and the research program director, on the CDC-funded Youth Empowerment Strategies (YES!) program at the Public Health Institute.
