Mieko Davis, Research Associate

Mieko is a part-time research associate with the Center for Research on Adolescent Health and Development, responsible for coordinating library research and interview scheduling. For the past nine years Mieko has dedicated herself to working with youth and adolescents, particularly from low-income families both in the Los Angeles and East Bay areas, using research on adolescents to better serve the communities in which she works. She has worked as a peer counselor, mentor, tutor and community liaison for various non-profit community-based outreach organizations. Mieko coordinated cognitive interviews to assess item comprehension among fifth graders for the elementary-level California Healthy Kids Survey. She also served as the Program Coordinator for the Eureka! Teen Achievement Program with Girls Inc. of Alameda County, working to motivate and inspire girls from low-income families to pursue careers in scientific, mathematical and technological fields.

Mieko graduated from UCLA in 1999, majoring in sociology with a minor in education and a concentration in community educational leadership. She lived and studied in Ghana, West Africa at the University of Legon during the 1998-1999 academic year, studying sociology and West African dance.
